Bamboo flooring makes your home all the more attractive. This is a smart choice and this environmentally friendly product can be installed as an alternative to the traditional hardwood flooring. The benefits of bamboo flooring have made it very popular among the new home makers.

Bamboo flooring is durable and resistant to moisture and stain. But if you have installed bamboo flooring in your home, you need to take very good care of the floors. Without proper maintenance, soon the flooring will become dull and lose its natural beauty. So you have to daily clean the bamboo floors in order to retain its lasting beauty.

Keep the Floors Clean

After bamboo floor installation, use a mop dampened with non-toxic and no wax floor cleaner to clean the floor. You also need to dust the floor regularly by either vacuuming or by using broom with soft bristles that won’t harm the floor. When you clean the floors always try to use the recommended cleaners by the professionals. You can also use solution made of one quarter of water with ¼ cup of white vinegar to mop the bamboo floors. Those cleaners that are manufactured for cleaning surfaces with urethane finishes can also be safely used.

Proper Maintenance and Avoid Damaging Bamboo Floors

While moving your furniture across the room put rubber pads in their legs to avoid scratching the floors. If you have pets at home, then keep their claws trimmed to avoid even the minute scratches and damages. You can put rugs and mats at the doorways so that the dust does not spread in your rooms. But make sure that the backside of these mats are not abrasive and won’t bleed or cause chemical reaction harming the floor’s finish.

It would be excellent if you can use a humidifier or a dehumidifier at your home. It is important to maintain the relative humidity for proper maintenance of the bamboo flooring. Excessive moisture can cause swelling of the flooring while too dry environment can cause cracks in the planks.

What You Should Avoid Doing on Bamboo Floors

  • While moving the furniture, make sure not to drag them but to carry them.
  • Avoid walking on your bamboo floors with spike high heels.
  • Make sure not to use any ordinary household cleaners, oil soap or wax to clean the bamboo floors.
  • Do not use wet mops to clean the bamboo floors as water can cause parts of the floor to swell.
  • Abrasive cleaning pads are not to be used for cleaning.
  • Do not leave any dirt or sand on bamboo floors for long. Try to clean them as quickly as possible.
  • If you use a vacuum cleaner to clean your floors try to avoid the beater bar.
